Reclaimed-everything (but the appliances) rental apartment kitchen. Leaky plumbing had ruined the inside of the cabinetry, hard use had destroyed the laminate countertop, ancient neglect had ruined the shelving of the pantry closet, and a cooking habit left us with insurmountable dishes and a perpetually-full tiny sink. The sizable space was also seriously lacking places to put things. We ripped out the inside of the cabinetry and reconfigured the components to fit around a new dishwasher. Then we rekajiggered a used stainless steel top-mount sink into an one mounted under a "new" (used) solid surface, countertop. We made woodshop "scrap" shelving for pots, pans, plants, &etc., and a giant closed cabinet for spices. Two ikea hutches had been abandoned in the trash, one without a top. The shutters are from craigslist. Justin combined them to make a monster hutch with a stove-side countertop work surface, using a cutoff from the countertop. The floor is also "new," ripped out from a condemned house, refurbished, then refinished with a hardwax oil. We also gave everything a much needed lick of paint.
