A custom kitchen table – composed with a nod to designer, woodworker, and former fellow Pennsylvanian George Nakashima – made from our now customary reclaimed white Ohioan barn oak finished with hardwax oil. The table top is affixed by slide mount along two long, unglued, blind, dovetail joints. The glued up surface slabs can grow and shrink along these axes with seasonal thermal changes, without the stress that could be caused by spot connections with the steadfast and rigid base structure. Extensions mount in felt lined (also to cushion from thermal size change) and beeswaxed (to prevent binding) channels. First of a pair, with dining table.
