Finding an old tight-grained pine door in the trash provided the inspiration and much of the material for this piece. Cutting down the ratty door revealed long lengths of clean pine, and pegs from the original door construction are still visible on some leg pieces. Two pieces of reclaimed barn oak make up the connector that holds everything together. The oak is dyed black with a dye we made from walnut husks and iron, the color deepened by reaction with tannins in the oak itself, to create a high contrast with the beautifully grained pine.
